Stellar feedback and triggered star formation in the prototypical bubble RCW 120

چکیده
Radiative and mechanical feedback of massive stars regulates star formation galaxy evolution. Positive triggers the creation new by collecting dense shells gas, while negative disrupts shredding molecular clouds. Although key to understanding formation, their relative importance is unknown. Here, we report velocity-resolved observations from SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) legacy program FEEDBACK star-forming region RCW 120 in [CII] 1.9-THz fine-structure line, revealing a gas shell expanding at 15 km/s. Complementary APEX (Atacama Pathfinder Experiment) CO J=3-2 345-GHz exhibit ring structure fragmented into clumps that are actively forming stars. Our demonstrate triggered can occur on much shorter time scales than hitherto thought (<0.15 million years), suggesting positive operates short periods.

How stellar feedback simultaneously regulates star formation and drives outflows
We present an analytic model for how momentum deposition from stellar feedback simultaneously regulates star formation and drives outflows in a turbulent interstellar medium (ISM). Because the ISM is turbulent, a given patch of ISM exhibits sub-patches with a range of surface densities. The high-density patches are ‘pushed’ by feedback, thereby driving turbulence and self-regulating local star ...

Context. By means of different physical mechanisms, the expansion of H ii regions can promote the formation of new stars of all masses. RCW 120 is a nearby Galactic H ii region where triggered star formation occurs. This region is well-studied – there being a wealth of existing data – and is nearby. However, it is surrounded by dense regions for which far infrared data is essential to obtain an...
متن کاملAir-bubble-triggered drop formation in microfluidics.
In microfluidic devices, droplets are normally formed using T-junction or flow focus mechanisms. While both afford a high degree of control over drop formation, they are limited in maximum production rate by the jetting transition. Here, we introduce a new drop formation mechanism that is not limited by jetting, allowing much faster drop production.
متن کاملTriggered star formation in the Magellanic Clouds
We discuss how tidal interaction between the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), and the Galaxy triggers galaxy-wide star formation in the Clouds for the last ∼ 0.2 Gyr based on our chemodynamical simulations on the Clouds. Our simulations demonstrate that the tidal interaction induces the formation of asymmetric spiral arms with high gas densities and consequently t...
متن کاملGalaxies on FIRE (Feedback In Realistic Environments): Stellar Feedback Explains Cosmologically Inefficient Star Formation
We present a series of high-resolution cosmological zoom-in simulations1 of galaxy formation to z = 0, spanning halo masses Mhalo ∼ 108 −1013 M and stellar masses M∗ ∼ 104 −1011 M . Our simulations include a fully explicit treatment of both the multi-phase ISM (molecular through hot) and stellar feedback. The stellar feedback inputs (energy, momentum, mass, and metal fluxes) are taken directly ...
